S.A.D. to S.O.L, standard American diet to “save-oring” our lives, movement was started by Yolanda Manning of Memphis, Tennessee. This movement strives to educate the community by practicing the Rastafarian lifestyle of “Ital is Vital.” By eating an Ital diet, one eats of the earth and believes the food eaten gives the body and mind strength. The food eaten in the Ital diet is of its purest form; no preservatives, no additives, no manufactured foods of any kind.

Bob Marley embraced the practices of eating an Ital diet. And in doing so the residents of Nashville honor him with this tribute. Led by Yolanda Manning, the Program Manager at Knowledge Quest, the tribute started off with the old tunes of Bob Marley and greetings.

Lamar Wilson of Lamar’s Food and Water sold aprons and kitchen accessories at the event. He also shared his testimony of how changing one’s diet back to the basic foods not only helps improve one’s physical health but also mental health. He provided samples of fermented black garlic that tasted like a sweet licorice. Black garlic is high in antioxidants.

N’Digo Kali, of The N’Digo One Art, is a local Nashville artist and yoga instructor, provided the attendees with a live art painting exhibit of the legendary Bob Marley. While attendees mingled, and shared their Ital stories and testimonies, N’Digo painted from a blank canvas the portrait of Bob Marley.

Food in its purest form is the basis of the Ital diet, fresh fruits and fresh vegetables free of pesticides. Supporting our local farms in the Nashville area will help the community but also will provide better quality foods. Yolanda Manning and those that help with the S.A.D. to S.O.L Movement are striving to provide an alternative eating style; a healthier eating style. One that supports gardening and growing one’s own food and supporting local businesses in the process.
