Oz Arts Hosts First Annual Nashville International Women’s Day

Nashville's first annual International Women's Day event was held at Oz Art. This event shed light on Women ages preteens to adults and allowed them to speak and share "Their Truth." Nashville IWD sold out of tickets for this event and hope to do the same in 2018.

The four-hour event brought provided was broken down into two parts. Wu Fei, opened and closed this event. Fei born in China now calls Nashville home. composes and plays the Chinese guzheng instrument.
Act Like a Grrrl, a group of girls and past organization members performed a choreo-poem that demonstrated girl power. “What is a GRRRL…A GRRRL is nice but tough when she needs to be…A GRRRL will always stand up for another GRRRL,” recited by Act Like a Grrl ensemble.
This organization takes girls between the ages of twelve and eighteen into a four-week program and teaches them creative writing skills of sell expression.

Rocker band, Dudette, made up of young women ages 12-17 graced the stage with three selections. They are the product of an alliance formed in the Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp back in 2015. This camp held in Murfreesboro, TN and Nashville for girls ages 10-17. The camp provides the opportunity for young women to learn an instrument and perform a piece at the end of the camp.
The Nashville International Day festivities also included a panel discussion based on the topic “Be Bold For Change.” Mel Folwer-Green of Metro Human Relations Commission, moderated the five women panel. The panel discussed feminism, the rights of women and how to express your voice and make sure that it is heard.
The panel consisted of Aisha Lbhalla of the Women’s Council, Dr. Fallon Wilson of Ray of Hope Community Church, Kimmberly Ensley of Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition, Loraine Segovia-Paz of La Noticia and Wu Fei local artist.
